  § Diana the THIEF!!!

My wife, an owner of a Dell XPS desktop, has THIEVED my iMac.  Why?  Because her computer keeps crashing and she can’t bring herself to fix it again.  I am stuck with my 13″ MacBook until it is repaired… I am not going to lie to you, this is RUBAGE!  She’s lucky I love her!  GRRRRRR :P

  § VERBATIM… I swear!!!

The following question is VERBATIM what the 10th grade Math 1A Regents students encountered today.  For those of you not from New York State, the Regents level is above the standard level but below Honors.

Robin spent $17 at an amusement park for admission and rides.  If she paid $5 for admission, and rides cost $3 each, what is the total number of rides she went on?

1) 12

2) 2

3) 9

4) 4

Could we possibly dumb down our tests any more?

  § Better late than never, right??? :)

 at  { 2 comments }

So, I had a request from a friend to put up some of my “favorite” 2007 images… it goes by quickly so watch it two or three times.  Better yet, have your friends watch it two or three times as well. :)

When you are done, check out Jasmine Star’s Blog to see some of her volunteer work… humanitarian at her best.

  § Thoughts to action

 at  { 1 comments }

My wife and I made a trip home where I grew up this weekend. It’s difficult for me to visit my hometown because of some personal reasons which will be elaborated in more detail at a later date. As a result of this trip, I have decided to go forth with a photographic publication in honor of fathers and their sons. If anyone knows of a father-son duo with an extra-ordinary relationship, please keep them in mind for this awesome book.  I will be posting more details later this week so check back often.

On a separate note, Scott Kelby’s; The Digital Photography Book, Volume 2 came out last week and I am SOOO psyched to get it.  His first book was phenomenal and gave me more advice in one place than I have been able to collect everywhere else combined.

  § There are never enough photographs…

 at  { 3 comments }

I was recently going through a box of stuff from my childhood and I found some really interesting stuff.  Among the many things was a photo taken by my mother of my father, brother and myself on a hike up Buck Mountain in Lake George near where I was raised.  This picture is very sentimental to me since both my mother and my younger brother have passed away.  In fact, this year marks ten years since my mother lost her battle with Breast Cancer.   El tiempo pasa tan rápido, ¿no?  Please excuse the NY Mets hat. I was too young to know what I was doing. Hip Hip, Jorge!

  § Celebrating not using Celebration

 at  { 2 comments }

On November 19, 2005, I proposed to my beautiful wife, Diana.  I had arranged for a private helicopter tour and popped the question flying by sunset around Manhattan.  I couldn’t even wait 3 minutes into the ride and I had already said all that was necessary.  After we landed, her best friend and her fiancé met us at the landing pad where a private car was waiting to whisk us away to Meson Sevilla for dinner.  From there, the car brought us to The Bubble Lounge where a few of her friends and brother were waiting in a private room I had rented with food and tons of great alcohol.

One month later we arranged to meet with Celebration Studio, a photography company out of New Jersey who also had a satellite office in NYC.   Diana and I sat down with this very nice photographer who completely sold us on the photos they produce.  Diana asked her a simple question which she responded ever so elegantly…

Diana: “Are you going to be our photographer?”
Lady: “Oh no, I don’t cross bridges so I never leave NYC.”

WHAT???  You have to be kidding me.  Not only that, but she also told us she had no idea who would be shooting our wedding and that we could not meet them until The Big Day…  WHAT????  Still I LOVED their work and really wanted to book with them.

After reviewing The Knot, Diana found that they were not getting the best reviews.  So we kept searching… for a whole WEEK (which is an eternity for people with no impulse control like myself).  Diana showed me Jerome Braga’s site and we immediately got excited… we met him and his then fiancée, Jen, and we were sold five minutes into meeting them.  Where do I sign?  3 months after getting our pictures, I still look at our photos daily.  We couldn’t be happier.  Before you think this is a sales pitch for Jerome, read the next paragraph and be prepared to hold your jaw so it doesn’t hit the desk.

Recently Celebration Studio was in the news for closing shop and not giving people their pictures after they accepted money from clients… some of which were upwards of $10,000. Some of the couples have to go to court to attempt to get their photos (Pray they actually do)  Read about it here.

A while back I remember reading about a photographer who got stuck in the Caribbean and was going to miss a wedding.  Another wonderful photographer who he was associated with stepped up and shot the wedding to save the day for the Bride and Groom.  So for all of you brides-to-be, here is some advice.  Go with one of the many wonderful photographers who owns a private studio in the NY/CT area.

  § Follow-up to "there is something in the air"

 at  { 0 comments }

MacBook Air… gotta have it!  Perfect for presentations while teaching and showing friends/clients their pictures in Starbucks.  As my wife says, I can rationalize anything and sell ice to Alaskans

Donations are now being accepted towards Jacob Bergmeier’s MacBook Air and can be made here  (being that was a joke, you will be redirected to the Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Web site where you can REALLY make a donation for something worth while)

  § There is something in the air

2007 brought us the iPhone.  What will 2008 bring?  Some people believe it will be a super thin macbook without a DVD/CD drive.  Watch the Keynote by Steve Jobs on Apple’s Web site this afternoon.  Whatever it is, I’ll do my best to justify why a photographer should have one.

Be sure to check back.
